6 days old

Last night was one of the longest nights of my life. Grace had been breastfeeding so well all day and being more alert and really coming along. Then we came to the middle of the night and she was starving. Come to find out she wasn't eating as much as she needed to and had completely run out and couldn't get it fast enough about 2:00 in the morning and then at 3:45 and then at 5:00 and then at 6:15. Meanwhile she is beside herself and has gas and won't let me put her down....welcome to motherhood Amy!!!

So we had a long night but realized that she is working as hard as she can to feed and just tiring out before she gets enough. Lots of reasons why that is happening but mainly because she is so young. So, this morning we set up a plan with the doctors to let her breastfeed for as long as she can and then give her what we think she might still need through the feeding tube. That way she is getting full and not getting frustrated with breastfeeding.

The doctor said that we can go home just as soon as she starts picking up weight consistently. She said that she doesn't necessarily have to get back to her birth weight but try and get close. She is currently at 4 lbs 4.8oz and she was born at 4lb 12oz.

All this to say I am going to lay down now and try and catch back up, but definitely need your prayers. I stayed as calm as I could last night and didn't get frustrated with her but need to continue to take care of the both of us by taking it easy and not getting too anxious.

Sorry there's no pictures today just imagine us sleeping soundly for extended amounts of time!
